These were RPOs for "package deals" on various option bundles. In other words, if you ordered a WY6, your car was built with a WS6 suspension, and the various RPO codes that it entails. WS5 is a special offer savings discount for the L69/WS6 package. If you ordered a WS6/L69 performance package, the WS5 would net you a couple hundred dollars off the retail price in the form of a discount. I think Pontiac's term was "Excitement Plus" performance discount. A 1984 L69 5.0L HO car will have code G in the VIN. It was rated at 190HP and was very quick for its day. A big improvement from the base 145/150HP carb'ed 305 and the '82-83 165/175HP CrossFire injected engine. This engine is quicker than the first few years of the Tuned Port Injected engine that came out in 1985. 1984 is the only year that manual and automatic trans were available with the HO engine. WS4 is simply the RPO code for "Trans Am". The 5.0L engine will pull hard to 5500RPM. The base LG4 5.0L and L69 5.0L HO look very much alike. Under the hood, the only difference is that the LG4 has a belt-driven cooling fan while the L69 has an electric cooling fan. They both have a functional Ram Air hood. Everything had an 85 MPH speedometer in '84. It was a federal law.
